Baz Education Workshops

At Baz, we make theatre that holds the tension and power of a sporting event, and we see no difference in our approach to education with our comprehensive package of workshops that inspire. As a theatre company we develop our process through regular workshops, and our work in Education is equally intrinsic to our development as a company.

We train our actors to be the bravest part of themselves, to fully use their voices, their bodies, and to trust their impulses. We want our students to do the same, sharing our approach in an accessible way that appeals to students, arming them with a toolkit of new ideas and techniques that challenge.

Baz workshops have been carefully designed to support the challenges faced from Yr 10 – 13; from the intracacies of text, the challenges of devising and collaborative work.

Interaction is essential and students are actively involved from the first moment, working collaboratively and collectively with their peer group in an open and supported environment, through the techniques of play and physical games.

Workshops are tailored to the exact requirements of the group and Baz can incorporate an extensive range of practitioners and text into the session to support the requirements of both the Edexcel and AQA syllabuses. Essential to the process, evaluation is embedded within workshops to ensure Students are actively engaged and can draw links to their own work, inspiring future development.

Each workshop is delivered by professional and CRB checked theatre practitioners from Baz Productions and are scheduled to fit flexibly with your timetable and class.  Baz will liaise with you beforehand to identify your needs and the strengths and weaknesses of the students to create a tailored workshop plan in advance of the session which can be amended as necessary to complement their study.

Devising Theatre Workshop

To support our upcoming devised production of Prophesy (site-specific performances in 2013), Baz-Ed is working with students and teachers to share our methods of creating theatre projects from scratch.

Baz-Ed knows that devising plays can be intimidating. Immobilised by too much choice, the worries of where to begin and how to proceed can feel overwhelming. We also know that when equipped with the right tools every student has the capacity to create exciting drama – and experience just how fun it can be!

These practical workshops demonstrate how to:

  • Find and use stimulus materials
  • Research productively
  • Develop the aims and intentions of a piece
  • Identify the target audience
  • Make creative decisions including
    • Improvising characters
    • Structuring a piece

We supply students and teachers with the skills needed to devise theatre projects and enough enthusiasm to carry them onwards. This workshop is adaptable for all levels from Yr 10 – 13, and can be used to support the Edexcel A2 Unit 3 (Exploration of Dramatic Performance).

Schools:

We offer single sessions lasting up to 2.5 hours (£150) as well as full days (£275) on this topic. All workshops can be tailored to the groups’ individual needs and targets, as well as the school timetable as necessary.
